After a very long 5 hour plane ride, 45 minute taxi ride, one flat tire, 10000 mosquito bites I finally arrived at my temporary host family's house. I was a little sad since I felt that I would not feel like I completely was in El Salvador until I had a place to call my own!But since my permanent host family thought I was arriving on Monday instead of Thursday they were not ready for me just yet. I am lucky to have 2 of the best people here with me(who also live at this house): Vivian and Alice who reassured me that they would even share their closet with me just so that I would feel at home!!!They're the greatest.
The temp host family was great: they treated me as if I was staying there forever and was one of their own!For 4.5 days my days were filled with singing and inside jokes with Alice..it didn't matter whether or not we knew the lyrics to the song we sing them anyways.
El Salvador is nothing the way people described it to me....I only have one word for those people its 'AMAZING'!!!
The people, the heat, the city it's wonderful. I feel like I'm in Ecuador as I walk down the street and find myself having to remind myself that I am indeed in El Salvador. I feel at home here, I feel like I've been here for a lifetime or at least in another life. I know deep in my heart that I was meant to come to El Salvador in order to accomplish something in my life( even if I don't know what yet!)
I love the new friendships I have formed : who knew that Yenny another YIPP intern and Heather my Oregon Hippie and I would have so much in common. I feel that I can open to them, and that we've been friends forever even thought its only been a couple of weeks.
I guess this should be about the time I tell about my deadly allergies to ANTS! So basically we were at Rachel's house and Alice stepped in an Ant hill, as I was trying to get them off of her, one bit me! It stung and burned mighty hard....but I thought nothing of it....two days later my whole leg was swollen and I kept telling myself I would walk it off. I was told by Vivian..to stop being a trooper and admit to the fact that I'm allergic to ants!Needless to say I am! I am very allergic....and now I am much more careful when I walk through grassy areas!
To sum up my Internship so far....I LOVE IT.....I LOVE IT A LOT....the people and country are amazing....I wouldn't change it for the world....and I cant begin to explain how lucky I feel to be given this opportunity....even thought I still haven't figured out how to cross the street :)
P.S: My permanent host family is Awesome...:D
